Torilan,
the Cuvée with the elegance
of a Pinot Noir.

«A cuvée is more than the sum
of the varieties of grape involved.
It is a product of the art of composition,
blending individual aromas to create
a harmonious whole»
Rudi Kofler

«Torilan» is a good name for our new red cuvée. Back in the year 923, when the chronicles still referred to Terlan as «Torilan», wines were tended in the warm soils at foot of the porphyry rock faces of Tschöggel Mountain to produce wines which were renowned far and wide. Today the Terlan district, with its diversity of microclimates at between 250 and 900 metres above sealevel, is the home of a range of wines that is probably unique in the whole of Europe. It therefore seemed only logical to blend a cuvée combining all the merits of the Terlan terroir in a wine of great complexity.

The art of composition.

«Torilan» is the first red cuvée from the Terlan winery. It is the red counterpart to the traditional white Terlaner cuvée that has been among the highlights of the winery’s offering ever since it was first established in 1893. Those long years of experience in blending fine cuvées have gone into the new «Torilan», plus an innovative choice of grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Noir. That makes Torilan something out of the ordinary, a cuvée in which the traditional combination of Merlot and Cabernet is given a new and unique touch through the addition of Pinot Noir.

Elegance and energy
in a convincing symbiosisi

A cuvée is more than the sum of its grape varieties. The Merlot and Cabernet, which develop their full potential in the warm lowlevel vineyards of Siebeneich and Siemegg (250 m), above all give «Torilan» its unusual structure, strength and density, while its elegance and finesse derive from the Pinot Noir, which flourishes on the cooler slopes of Montigl (600 m). The three grape varieties are processed separately. Following controlled fermentation on skins in stainless steel tanks, the wines are filled in large wooden barrels for malolactic fermentation and maturing. Blending is performed immediately prior to bottling

Unity in diversity

The result is a highly harmonious wine with intensive aromas reminiscent of blackberry and raspberry combined with a slightly spicy touch. The wine shimmers in colour with red hues of ruby and garnet. In taste, «Torilan» is a pleasantly full bodied wine with velvety tannins. The new wine offers a convincing symbiosis of elegance and strength, variety and harmony, that is the key to full enjoyment. «Torilan» (13% alcohol) is best served at a drinking temperature of 18 ºC.
